The California State Fair hosts hundreds of contests & competitions each year. Californians of all ages are invited to show off their hobbies, talents and skills for the chance to win cash, prizes and bragging rights!

Industrial & Technology Education – Located in Expo Center, Building #4
An exhibit designed to recognize outstanding California adults, enrolled in or instructing an accredited vocational program in grades 7 through community college.
California Fine Art – Located in Expo Center, Building #7
Come see a showcase of the best artwork currently being done by California residents 18 years of age and older. This visual arts exhibition is recognized as one of the Golden State’s largest and most prestigious juried art shows. This building also features artists creating art live all day, everyday of the State Fair!

Plein Air at the Fair – Located all around the Fairgrounds!
On July 21 and 22, witness California artists creating paintings of their favorite State Fair activities. Beginning July 21st, the paintings they create will be on exhibit in the California Fine Art Building, Expo Center #7.

Competitions in this program showcase the talents of California residents 18 years of age and older.

Counties Exhibits – Located in the California Building (A/B)
The California State Fair’s Counties Exhibits Program began in the 1870’s, designed to showcase each of California’s 58 counties. The Counties that enter create a 3-D exhibit to promote their agriculture, art, commerce, culture, ethnic heritage, history, industry, lifestyles, natural resources, recreation and tourism. Judging is based on content, marketability, craftsmanship, creativity, and use of technology.
