CA Building Exhibits

California’s Counties Exhibit

Year after year, the Counties Exhibits are ranked by fair visitors as one of the most popular programs at the fair! In this program, the counties have the opportunity to promote their agriculture, art, commerce, culture, ethnic heritage, history, industry, lifestyles, natural resources, recreation, and tourism by creating 3-D exhibits that represent a part of their county.

The counties compete with each other to display their counties attributes in the best way. The participating counties compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards. Judging of the 2013 Counties Exhibits is Thursday, July 11.  Exhibits are judged based on their content, marketability, craftsmanship, creativity, and use of technology. There are also many special awards, including awards by popular vote, such as the Peoples’ Choice, Most Educational and Most Fun.

In 2013 over 30 of California’s Counties will build displays for the fair!

“That’s Amazing”- A Tribute to Huell Howser

On January 7th, California lost a legend. Huell Howser, of the famed California’s Gold television program died at the age of 67. Howser had a very genuine enthusiasm for California and elevated the simple joys of living in our great state by highlighting undiscovered nuggets of California living that are often overlooked; he could take the ordinary and make it extraordinary. He contributed greatly to the celebration of the history, culture, and people of California. In an interview with NBC Los Angeles, Howser stated “I want our stories to reveal the wonders of the human spirit and the richness of life in California, including its history, people, culture and natural wonders.”

This year we created a tribute to the great Huell Howser that shows the importance he played in promoting California and its counties through his syndicated programs on PBS. The exhibit features video highlights from some of his popular California’s Gold episodes, as well as personal memorabilia he collected through his travels.

The exhibit features items from Howser’s personal collection, borrowed from Chapman University, and the University worked with us to create an exhibit that is sure to thrill and delight you! A re-creation of his production office can be found at the exhibit as well. Fans of Howser will be fascinated by the many mementos of his that our exhibit has to offer.
