The Farm

Monday – Thursday, 12noon-8p.m.
Friday – Sunday, 10am – 8p.m.
The first California State Fair was held in 1854 to bring together primarily members of the agricultural community to share knowledge and compete for recognition of their accomplishments. 158 years later, the California State Fair showcases California agriculture and the important role this industry plays in our State’s economy.

The centerpiece of the State Fair agricultural programs is the Merrill Award “living exhibit” known as The Farm. Presented by Save Mart Supermarkets, The Farm is open Monday-Thursday, 12 noon-8pm and Friday-Sunday, 10am – 8pm

There are plenty of activities for the entire family to enjoy.

Save Mart Supermarkets Farm Passport

Monday-Friday, 12 noon-8 p.m.
Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Take your passport with you as you travel through The Farm. Learn about healthy eating habits and enjoy the delicious, smart snack and the end of the journey!

Insect Pavilion

Daily, 1:30, 4:30, 7:30p.m.
The Insect Pavilion is full of creatures from your backyard and as far away as the tropical rain forests. The special feature this year will be beneficial insects – predators that hunt garden pests! Plus, butterfly collections, pests and integrated pest management programs will be showcased. (Located in The Farm.)

Play with Your Food

Saturday – Sunday, 2 p.m., 5 p.m.
Create an insect, car or animal from California-grown produce.

Farm Games

Daily at 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m.
Corn husking, bobbing for apples, peaches and pears

Dirt to Dish Demonstration Kitchen:

Bring The Farm Home Cooking Demonstrations: Friday, July 22 & 29 and every Saturday- Sunday, 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m.

Sampling a Taste of California: Learn from expert growers and chefs about the benefits of using California-grown ingredients. July 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, & 31 at 2 p.m., 5 p.m.

“Save Our Water” Exhibit & Water Efficient Gardens

Even though California received a staggering amount of rain and snow this year we still need to conserve our most precious natural resource – water. Visit the award winning extraordinary Water Efficient “Save Our Water” Gardens and learn how to conserve water in your everyday life, both indoors and outdoors. Demonstrations will also be conducted focusing on California-friendly, water efficient flowers and plants. July 26 is “Save Our Water” Day at the State Fair. Kids are invited to participate in the exciting “Water Savers for Roots Only!” flower planting courtesy of the “save Our Water” Program Don’t miss Radio Disney’s water conservation “edutainment” July 19 & 26, 2:30 p.m.

Radio Disney’s Team Green

July 19, 26 at 2:30 p.m.
Radio Disney’s Team Green rocks the State Fair this year with a fun interactive show for kids and their families by introducing simple ways they can make changes in their home, at school or work to live a “greener” lifestyle. Come learn how you can team up to help protect the environment! (Located in The Farm)

Blacksmith Shop:

demonstrations daily at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. Support provided by the Horse Shoe Barn of Sacramento

Aquaculture Exhibit Fish Experience

Daily, 2:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m
California’s Aquaculture Industry (the raising of fish and shellfish for food and profit) will be featured and showcased. Many of California’s most profitable fish such as sturgeon, catfish, bass, carp and koi. Visitors will have the opportunity to touch aquatic creatures.

Sacramento County U.C. Master Gardeners

Trained by the University of California, the Master Gardener volunteers will answer your questions on water efficient landscapes, pest management, composting and pruning techniques. Also, information is available on edible crops such as vegetables, berries and fruit trees.

Sacramento Orchid Society Greenhouse Exhibit
“Gems of the Jungle”

Over the centuries orchids have been a symbol of love, luxury and beauty. Here’s a chance to learn how to choose healthy orchids, keep them alive and how to get them to re-bloom time and again! Local expert Scott Farrell will be there to answer all your questions.
